Ensure Joint Integrity in Structural Bolting Applications
Joint integrity is critical in structural connections, specifically those connections prone to damage during earthquakes and seismic activity. Solon Manufacturing Co.’s Belleville springs have been successfully tested to considerably reduce damage in structural systems that are subjected to severe earthquakes. Solon’s Belleville washers are designed to create tight connections better than conventional springs and maintain bolt preload in bridges, buildings, and other infrastructure. Our ISO 9001:2015-certified Belleville Spring washers are proven to reduce damage in structural systems subject to earthquakes and seismic activity without forming connections that are too rigid. Belleville washers absorb shock, provide dampening and support high tension in bolted applications.

The Importance of Bolted Connections
Bolted connections that are too stiff or rigid can have a negative impact on the dynamic behavior of structural systems.- Structural members / structural systems
- Asymmetric friction sliding structural connections (a sliding high joint / beam-to-column connection)
- Skyscrapers
- Structural systems subject to seismic activity
- Bridges
- Infrastructure
Solon Belleville Springs Prevent Damage to Structural Members
Solon® Belleville Springs were used by the University of Auckland Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering in New Zealand to design and test a live loaded bolted connection. The conclusion of this study was that optimum use of Belleville springs in asymmetric friction sliding structural connections (a sliding high joint / beam-to-column connection) prevents damage to structural members.Benefits of Solon Washers
- Maintain bolt preload under normal conditions
- High spring force with small deflections
- Absorbs shock and compensates for vibration
- Predictable load-deflection curves where straight, progressive or regressive characteristics are required
- No deformation or fatigue under normal conditions
- Available in Imperial Washer and Metric Washer sizes
